If we believe back I am sure we can all bear in mind a time whenever we were being placed in class plus the teacher asked a question; all of us knew in our minds that the answer we all chose was the right one, however when we seemed around, almost all of the class had chosen a different sort of answer. What did we do? All of us more than likely did not answer the question because the remaining class could have looked at us like we had been wrong. All of us didn't want to be the strange man out of your whole class. Yu & Sun (2013) state, " when people will vary opinions in a group, they often adjust their particular attitudes and behaviors to match the group opinion, called social conformity” (p. 1). Looking back again, should we now have conformed towards the class? Ought to we have merely listened to yourself and solved the question even though the rest of the category chose the different answer? The answer then is no, we all shouldn't possess conformed to the class; we should have paid attention to ourselves, in least for me personally anyways. According to Robbins, DeCenzo, & Coulter (2014), " conformity is adjusting one's behavior to align using a group's norms” (p. 285).
We are taught as soon as we are old enough to understand the idea that it is bad to become unique and to avoid staying different. At some time, however , we have to decide within ourselves if to spend every single day trying to wind up as everyone else because society says we should or living everyday true to ourselves. Does the wish to be accepted within a group leave one susceptible to conforming for the group's norms? Can an organization exert pressure that's strong enough to change a member's thinking and patterns?
The desire to always be accepted and belong to a bunch is a definite human want. Whether were trying to remain in family, friends, co-workers, or a sports crew, we have a desire to be a part of something and belong; we would like to feel like were wanted. What we have to understand is we are all distinct; we are not every the same. We all have different lives and passions, beliefs, and so forth; not everyone is going to fit into selected groups.
Most people usually want to create to a group's norms because they want that feeling of installing in; they don't want to be considered several. In order for them to go with a group, they may agree with something they no longer necessarily experience is right, however they go along with this because they would like to be part of that group. For instance , say you just started getting together with a certain group that you have desired to be a part of for some time; they let you know the only way you could be a part of their particular group should be to walk into a shop and steal something. Do you really do it so you can be a part of all their group? Or do you say no and leave? If you've wished to be a a part of that group, more than likely, you are going to do it so you can fit in with them; even though it can be not the ideal thing to do. The pressure of being a part of an organization or feeling wanted, makes people do something they more than likely normally do. Conformity derives from the wish to be socially approved and varieties the basis for normative affect. (Papyrina, 2012) According to Papyrina (2012), " the theory of normative influence argues that individuals adapt because they believe that similarity breeds taste, and that agreeing with other folks will help these people fit in the group and avoid rejection” (p. 468). How does one particular command model connect with the most important overall performance outcomes for teams?
